Saval U16 Girls - Sunday 23rd April 2023
Saul 5-5 Saval 9-7
Its often said that goals win matches – that was certainly the case today as Saval girls travelled to Saul to continue their league campaign. Saval got of to a great start with an early goal from Niamh McGinley in the second minute of the game. This was to set the pattern for an open game with the Saval forwards posing a constant threat on the Saul goal. Saul to their credit were a strong and committed side and a determined forward line kept the Saval defence on their toes for the majority of the game.
While the Saval backline of Sarah McGinn, Cliodhna Lennon and Katie McShane worked hard to limit the Saul attacks, our forwards continued to register the scores at the other end. Full forward Niamh McGinley was particularly effective with an eight goal tally. Mollie Havern contributed a goal and point with Ursula Hall, Orla McGuinness and stand-in goalkeeper Cassie McAloon also registering scores during the game to keep Saval well ahead on the scoresheet.
A couple of late Saul goals towards the end of the game narrowed the margin slightly, however the result was never really in doubt and Saval fully deserved their win and two league points.
Well done to both teams for a competitive game of football. Saval would like to wish Saul all the best for the remainder of their season.
