Game Report 21st May 2023

SavalOg’s played away from home today in An Riocht! The Saval team got off to a flyer with some slick hand passing in the first quarter of the game against a tough Kingdom team! Daniel Turley, Joe Murtagh and Cillian McClorey started to boss the midfield area and their dominance paid off with quick passes into the Saval full forward line of Caolan Toner and James O’Neill who duly obliged with some great goals and points!

Following this early scoring blitz from the boys in green, An Riocht started to come into the game more in the 2nd quarter, but like Spartans holding back an invading Persian Empire, the defensive unit of Ryan Hillen, Hollie Grant, Patrick Hamilton and Aaron McGahon kept all scoring against Saval to a minimum! There was even a Messi-esque flick from Patrick Hamilton before one of his now trademark breaks out of defence!

Half time came and went and Saval, despite some great pin point kick outs from Darragh McDaniel, were under sustained pressure for significant periods of the 2nd half! In the wet conditions, Saval started to wake up in the 4th quarter of the game, aided by a Jemma Quinn self proclaimed tactical masterclass, which included moving Ryan ‘Rolls Royce’ Hillen into the midfield area. The team started to play again and had some nice play through the hands and some great scores from Ryan Hillen and Cillian McClorey, along with some great build up plays and moves from Patrick Donnelly, Matthew Davidson, Odhran Sands and Callum Rice!

Well done to all the players today. See you all at training on Thursday

Game Report 21st May 2023

Saval Gaels had home advantage to local rivals Burren today and were not planning on letting them dominate at any stage.
Saval opened the scores with a free from Charlie Kearney followed by points from James Mccarthy, Mollie Quinn, Odhran O'Sullivan and a long range point from Matty McCorry. A solid defence from Jack Ferguson, Mossy Donnelly and Matty McCorry took them into half time 0.5 to 0.0.
Second half saw Burren coming out strong scoring 2 points back to back. Our fly keeper Danny Canavan made a super run down the field slipping the ball to Charlie Kearney who fisted it across the box to see Christy McClorey rise above the defenders and punch it into the net. Burren came back with a point but was instantly matched by Ianis Sanduleac. Savals forwards Harry O'Hare and Jacob Hughes dropped back and worked tirelessly to strengthen our defence. A 45 taken by Odhran O'Sullivan was dropped into the box and fisted over the bar by James Mccarthy.
Game finished with an impressive scoreline Saval 1.7 Burren 0.3 from a great team performance.
