Saval U-11 Gaels Match Report

Harps break Saval hearts

In a game of 2 half’s, Saval narrowly lost away from home to a strong Ballyholland team!

Saval playing with a strong wind in the 1st half, started the livelier and like one of Declan Kearney prized pony’s, cantered to an early and well deserved lead. The well oiled machine in the middle of Charlie Kearney, Odhran O’Sullivan, Ianis Sanduleau and Mossy Donnelly were on top form and some nice patterns of play resulting in scores for the men in Green throughout the first 20 mins. Christy ‘the bomber’ McClorey, Reece Lucas, Tommy Heaney and Aaron McGahan exhibited some slinky interlinking play in forward positions throughout the game and this translated into a healthy lead in the 1st half!

Playing with a strong breeze in the 2nd half, Ballyholland started to get on top and despite some great defensive work from Matty McCorry and Jack Ferguson, Saval were finding it hard to get into the Ballyholland half of the field! Danny Canavan, playing in the fly-keeper Ethan Rafferty role, was hitting some great kick outs but against a strong wind, the Harps team were on the ascendancy!

The introduction of young bucks Ryan Hillen, Cillian McClorey and Jacob Hughes in the 2nd half, started to reinvigorate the Saval lads and they contributed with some great moves to maintain a slender lead!

However, with the last couple of plays, Ballyholland managed to sink a goal and 2 points to beat Saval hearts… whilst the Harps management jumped with joy, the Saval management of Declan Kearney, Cathal Donnelly and Jemma Quinn, through gritted teeth, were heard to say in unison…. We’ll be Back!

A great battling performance from all… see you all at training during the week
