Mayobridge Og’s vs Saval Og’s

Saval’s Og’s made the short trip on Tuesday night to play a self proclaimed, undefeated Mayobridge team. In fact, this was the same team that convincingly beat Saval, in Nan Sands, about 6 weeks ago!

Following a blood curdling speech and (according to Declan K) a pretty unconvincing haka demo from Jemma Quinn, followed by some words of wisdom from PJ and Cathal, the Green Machine started the game like demons and aided by the offensive excellence of Reece “the sharpshooter” Lucas,

Jacob “20 chickens nuggets please” Hughes, Aaron “dead aim “‘McGahan and Eoin “silky skills” Havern, Saval were able to match Mayobridge throughout a tough first half. Cillian ‘the Wavy headed Wonder’ McClorey and “the poacher” (Caolan Toner… he needs no introduction) were on top form and added to the score sheet throughout a competitive 1st half. This unsettled Mayobridge somewhat, given they had convincingly (according to the Mayobridge Facebook 🙄) won all their previous games this season. Mayobridge also found it hard to cope with the midfield masterclass performed by Mollie “poetry in motion” Quinn and Harry “the hurricane” O’Hare. It should be noted that Saval were missing a number of their key players such as Ryan Hillen, however Patrick “the hitman” Hamilton, Odhran “ the iceman” Sands and Halle “the cat” Grant stepped up throughout the game and provided the forward momentum to launch at the Mayobridge defence!

Come half time, Mayobridge were rattled but not out of it…. Some of the Saval players such as Cillian, Jacob, Eoin and Patrick had an important school game the next day and came off at half time, but this not deter Saval’s resolve. Saval were under pressure immediately, but “cometh the hour, cometh the men” and Tommy “the gun”’Heaney, Christy “the butcher” McClorey and Matty “the menace” McCorry stood tall. Darragh “the wall” McDaniel was producing a goalkeeping masterclass with some outstanding saves over the course of the game, aided by resolute defensive work and outstanding breaks from “the menace” McCorry, who despite some ‘special treatment’ from his marker, drove Saval onward offensively, resulting in some great goals and points from Reece, Aaron, and Joe “the Machine” Murtagh!

Saval rested a number of the key players in the 2nd half of the game, however they were able to compete against a strong Mayobridge team and really give them a run for their money!! The end result was a draw and Jemma was so proud, she actually walked off with a smile on her face 😀…. although no pictures of this smile were captured and this is based on hearsay! 😉

Well done one and all… see you at training on a Thursday night!
