Saval U16 Girls – Sunday 30th July 2023
Aghaderg 5-14 Saval 1-3
Saval U16 girls continued their Division Two league campaign this weekend with an away fixture against top of the table, Aghaderg. The Aghaderg girls were unbeaten all season and Saval were certainly expecting a tough fixture. Indeed, this proved to be the case as a strong Aghaderg team registered a series of scores in the first half to take a commanding 4-10 lead into the half-time break.
Saval were playing for pride in the second half and did not disappoint with a strong and determined display. A determined defensive display from Grace Fergusson and Sarah McGinn kept the Aghaderg forwards at bay. Special mention to Aoife Quinn who stepped into the goalkeeper jersey for today’s game and did not disappoint with some excellent saves and great kickouts to relieve the pressure on the Saval back line.
Despite the up-hill battle, the girls registered a goal and three points in the second half, with Connie McGrath scoring 1-2 and helping the morale as the girls put in a fighting second half performance, limiting Aghaderg to 1-4 at the other end.
The strong second half performance should give our girls a lot of confidence for the remainder of the season. Saval would like to congratulate Aghaderg on topping the Division Two league and wish them well for the championship campaign.
